Leather can be limited in terms of texture and colours. Not fabric. The designs and possibilities textiles and fabrics have to offer are endless.
Custom furnishing projects commissioned by companies, businesses, individuals etc. often leave behind a meaningful amount of intricately woven fabric that would otherwise only be seen in catalogues, and that can only be purchased in impossible quantities.
Am I glad to lay my hands on these expensive fabrics.
One example of reupholstering an imported sofa. The owner’s apartment was undergoing renovation, and there were excess fabric remaining from this project.
