Fail but still enter uni?

In our current merit system, many kids who have specific talents as reflected by exceptional grades in a subject or two, are unable to enter university to pursue that field because their overall grades fail to meet entry requirements.

This system that is already in place must stay because some kids do perform their best in it. At the same time, I look forward to a nationally implemented Singapore version of the International Baccalaureate that is equal to, and as institutionally recognised as the current dominant system. It will benefit students mentioned at the top and should not be the privilege of only the elites.
